Recently, a picture of Reliance Industries Chairperson and Director Nita Ambani went viral. In the picture, she can be seen holding a bottle of Acqua di Cristallo Tributo a Modigliani in a cricket stadium. While the image has been clinically proven, the buzz around water is still not dead. And we understand why.
It’s not every day that you get a bottle of water that costs $60,000 for less than a liter. Sure, it’s for the world’s rich, but what makes this bottle of water hold the Guinness World Record for the world’s most expensive water?
Bottled water is a billion-dollar industry today, due to rising pollution levels and global warming in the world. But a $60000 bottle should be more than that, right?
The water for each Acqua di Cristallo Tributo a Modigliani bottle is sourced from three different points on Earth – spring water in Fiji and France, and glaciers in Iceland. Since it is sourced from some of the cleanest water in the world, it is no surprise that it will cost a lot of money.
But is it just the water that makes Acqua di Cristallo Tributo a Modigliani so expensive?
Of course not. The packaging of each bottle contributes significantly to its price. Each of these 750ml glass bottles is covered in solid 24K gold. That was not enough, these bottles were designed by renowned bottle designer Fernando Altamirano, who is known for his exquisite bottle designs, making it one of the most expensive bottles in the world. He designed these bottles as a tribute to the late Italian artist Amedeo Clemente Modigliani.

Fernando Altamirano is also the man who designed The Cognac Dudognon Heritage Henri IV, the most expensive bottle of cognac in the world. No wonder it comes from him!
Even more interesting is that each drop of water in Acqua di Cristallo Tributo a Modigliani is made of 5 grams of 23-carat gold. The presence of gold makes the water more alkaline than regular water, which largely contributes to the pricing. It is also said that this gold coating of drinking water provides more energy than regular water.
Acqua di Cristallo Tributo a Modigliani is presented at the Planet Foundation A.C. at La Hacienda de Los Morales on March 4, 2010, in Mexico City. It was sold for 774,000 pesos, $60,000 US (£39,357) in an auction conducted by Planet Foundation A.C. at La Hacienda de Los Morales in Mexico City. All the money raised from this sale was donated to fight the cause of global warming.
