The day Outer Banks fans have been waiting for, is finally here as Season 3 is now streaming on Netflix! Honorary Pogues can now officially meet John B. (Chase Stokes) Sarah (Madeline Cline), JJ (Rudy Pankow), Kiara (Madison Bailey), Pope (Jonathan Daviss), and now, Cleo (Carlasia Grant). The Season 2 finale left viewers with many questions; now that Season 3 is here, it’s time for answers.
If you really want to know what happens (and who dies!) in Season 3 of The Outer Banks, you should start watching! Last season ended with the Pogues (plus Cleo—now a Pogue, perhaps?) escaping the wrath of Ward Cameron (Charles Esten), joining him and his completely off-the-rails son Rafe (Drew Starkey) in a lifeboat. However, he made his spectacular escape without the coveted cross.
The crew then find themselves on a desert island, which they announce to be Poguelandia. Also, Rafe vows to avenge his father and Carla in Barbados and asks a strange man to help his son in exchange for information about the treasure.
But now what?
The Pogues don’t even know the biggest reveal (at least not until the end of Season 2). And that is that John B’s father—aka Big John—is actually alive, at least for now.
Who Dies in Outer Banks Season 3?
A lot of characters sleep with fish in Outer banks season 3 and at least two of them are a big deal.
Portis, Tommy Sowell, Carlos Singh, Ryan, and Carlos Singh’s three smugglers meet their fate in Season 3. But none of these fictional deaths compare to the season’s two most important ones: Ward (Charles Esten) — this time for real! – and Big John (John Routledge).

Yes – as soon as we’re introduced to Big John, he goes and screams. And Ward? Well, many fans are relieved that he’s finally dead and gone, but believe it or not, for all his badness, Ward goes out with honor.
How does Ward die in Outer Banks Season 3?
Throughout Season 3 (and Season 1 and Season 2), fans have seen Ward come close to meeting his Maker on several different occasions. Most notably though, he faked his death in a massive boat explosion in Season 2, only to later discover it was all a ruse.
In Season 3, Ward is still cheating death — but not for long. In the season 3 finale, Ward sacrifices his life for his daughter Sarah. Carlos Singh’s servant Ryan finds the Pogues in South America and captures them at gunpoint. But (somewhat surprisingly) Ward jumps on Ryan and comes to her daughter’s rescue. He gets shot but manages to incapacitate Ryan. In the middle of the fight, the two fall off a cliff and die.
How does Big John die in Outer Banks Season 3?
Another major death of the season is Big John, John B’s father, who John B had already assumed was dead.
As the group leaves South America, Carlos Singh is hot on his heels and shoots Big John. While at first, it seems he may survive (he is able to continue and even protect the gold in the process), the injury takes a turn for the worst and Big John eventually bleeds out and dies.
Does JJ die in Outer Banks Season 3?
what?! Fans and Pogues alike will be devastated if JJ dies in Season 3. Still, this is the question of the season as everyone wants to know if JJ makes it out alive.
Thankfully JJ doesn’t die in Season 3! However, he has many examples where he could have been much better. It’s the fifth episode in particular that has fans on the edge of their seats.
