A warrant has been issued for the arrest of Cincinnati Bengals running back Joe Mixon on a misdemeanor complaint, according to court records.

The complaint was filed Thursday in Hamilton County, Ohio. The Bengals said they were aware of the allegations against Mixon.

“The club is investigating the situation and will have no further comment at this time,” a team spokesman said in a statement Thursday.

According to the warrant, Mixon allegedly pointed a gun at a woman on January 21 and said to the person “You should be popped in the face.” The incident happened at the intersection of Walnut Street and East Third Street in downtown Cincinnati. The day the Bengals defeated the Buffalo Bills in the divisional round of the AFC playoffs, the warrant said.

In a statement released to ESPN, Mixon’s agent, Peter Schaffer, said he expected Hamilton County officials to drop charges Friday morning. Adding that it was too early to make a decision.

“I really feel that the police have a responsibility before filing charges — because that person’s reputation can be damaged — to do their job,” Schaffer said.

In 2014, Mixon was charged with a misdemeanor for punching a woman. At the time, Mixon was a running back at the University of Oklahoma. He alleged that he had been called a racial slur, causing him to use anti-gay slurs before the attack. Mixon entered into a plea deal and was given a year of probation and suspended for one season.

Mixon was drafted by the Bengals in the second round of the 2017 NFL Draft. He signed a four-year extension worth $48 million in 2020 and was named to the Pro Bowl in 2020.
