Call of Duty Warzone 2 makes some big changes to Battle Royale’s loadout system. Here’s how you get your best guns and gear.
Loadouts were a big part of the original Call of Duty: Warzone. Anyone hoping to survive the most chaotic Battle Royale matches usually needs to rely on their custom, pre-made gear, and weapons. Loadouts are still a part of Warzone 2 (aka Warzone 2.0), so getting them is a bit more complicated than before.
The original Warzone let you buy your loadout on any buy session, but Warzone 2 makes you work a little harder to get your ideal set-up. The jury is still out on whether this system will stay in the game long-term, but for now, here’s how you get your loadout in Call of Duty Warzone 2.
Can you buy your loadout from a purchase station in Call of Duty Warzone 2?
You can no longer buy your entire loadout from buy stations in Warzone 2. The only loadout pieces you can buy from purchase stations (now called “shops”) are primary weapons. Buying your primary weapon from a shop will cost you $5000 (in-game, of course).
This is a big change from Warzone, which allowed you to purchase your entire loadout from any purchase station for $10,000. While it’s still useful to be able to buy your ideal weapon from a shop, anyone looking to use their favorite weapons, items, and attachments will need to look elsewhere.

How do you find loadout drops in Warzone 2?
Loadout drops are special boxes that contain the full loadouts of any player lucky enough to find them. While Warzone 2 has a few places to get loadout drops, many players can find them as part of a special, mid-match public event.
Officially, those loadout drops are dropped in the middle of…err…a Warzone 2 match. Informally, it seems that this fall could happen anytime between the closing of the second and sixth circles. Players will be notified when a drop occurs, but all compete for the same drop. This means that the risks of hunting it can quickly outweigh the rewards. Thankfully, any team that secures a drop can access it instantly.
How to find and clear a stronghold in Warzone 2
Strongholds are AI-controlled fortresses on the Warzone 2 map that contain valuable loadout drops. To secure a loadout drop, you’ll need to clear the Citadel.
Three turrets will appear on the Warzone 2 map when the first encirclement is closed. As far as I can tell, there was no way to reach these strongholds before that time. However, it is always possible that someone can find a way around that particular restriction.
As mentioned above, those strongholds are guarded by AI enemies who will try to kill you on sight. In reality, however, your biggest competition will be other teams fighting for Citadel prizes. In any case, someone attacking a stronghold is actually looking for a bomb that is usually located somewhere near the center of the structure. Disarm that bomb, and you’ll gain access to your loadout as well as the Black Sight Key.
Please note that Stronghold loadout drops are not limited to one team. If a squad defeats you on a stronghold loadout drop, you can still attack that stronghold, disarm the bomb and get the loadout drop. However, the first team to clear the citadel will be the only one to earn the Black Sight key.
How do you find black sites in Warzone 2?
Once you’ve obtained a Black Sight Key from a stronghold, be sure to pull up you’re in-game Warzone 2 map. You should see a “skull” icon somewhere on it. That icon indicates the status of the black site.
Black sites are basically more difficult versions of strongholds. They include a “Juggernaut” boss, along with other AI enemies. If you manage to clear one during a match, however, you’ll unlock a permanent weapon blueprint as well as a series of temporary legendary items. You will also gain access to a special UAV that will scan the area around the Black Site until the Black Site wall collapses.
While you don’t need to clear a Black Site during a Warzone 2 match (or a Citadel, for that matter), it’s worth doing whenever possible. The rewards are impressive, and black sites provide the safest place to make your last stand.
