Winter Storm Brings Heavy Snow to the US East Coast
A big winter storm hit the US East Coast on Monday. It brought a lot of snow. Made it hard for people to do their daily things. The snow was so bad that it stopped people from traveling and made a lot of power outages. Thousands of flights were cancelled because of the storm.
Some places got hit hard like Rhode Island and Massachusetts. They got 37 inches of snow. New York City also got a lot of snow with over 19 inches in Central Park. The people who watch the weather said it was a storm.
The police told people not to travel because the roads were really bad. Over 600,000 homes and businesses lost power. New Jersey and Massachusetts were the places for power outages.
The winter storm warnings went all the way from North Carolina to Maine and even into Canada. The weather people said it would keep snowing on Monday and that the coastal areas would get a lot snow by Tuesday.
Winter Storm Hits Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and New York City Hard
Rhode Island got hit the worst. The local news said it was the snowstorm they ever had. The capital city, Providence got 36 inches of snow which’s a new record. A weather lady named Candice Hrencecin said they were surprised by how bad the storm was.
Because it was so bad Rhode Island and Connecticut said people should not travel unless they had to. Then Massachusetts did the thing. The governor, Maura Healey said people should stay off the roads because it was not safe.
A lot of people lost power in Massachusetts 300,000. In one area 85% of the people lost power. New York City was really bad too with over eight million people stuck at home.
The police in Connecticut and New Jersey said that trees and branches could make the roads even worse and cause power outages. In Providence they had to tow over 300 cars because they were parked in the place.
The airports were really messed up too. Over 5,700 flights were cancelled on Monday. Some airports cancelled all of their flights. The snow was so bad that it will take a while to get everything back to normal.
The problem will keep going into Tuesday with more flights cancelled. The airports in Boston and New York will be the ones. The whole area is still trying to dig out from the storm. The winter storm is still causing problems for the people on the East Coast. The snow is still making it hard for people to travel and do their things. The winter storm is a deal and it will take some time to get everything back, to normal.
