After the pandemic shutdown, Broadway had its first full season since the 75th Annual Tony Awards. Theaters unexpectedly shut down for a year and a half, delaying many of the shows up for awards.
“Between the fourth and fifth previews were 577 days,” said The Lehman Trilogy producer in his speech accepting the award. Amongst all of the awards that were handed out, there were no mentions of COVID’s impact on the industry. The Tony awards did not encourage tourists to visit the area. Ariana DeBose, who hosted the show, went above and beyond to make it an overall warm and welcoming event.
