    ‘Rick and Morty’ Co-Creator Justin Roiland Dropped by Adult Swim After Domestic Violence Allegations

    Adult Swim, which airs the adult comedy “Rick and Morty,” announced Tuesday that he will no longer work with series co-creator Justin Roiland. The news comes less than two weeks after domestic violence charges were filed in Orange County.

    “The show has ended its association with Justin Roiland.” Said in a statement posted on social media and official “Rick and Morty” accounts. “The show will continue.”

    Roiland, who also co-produced and starred in Hulu’s “Solar Opposites.” Appeared in court on January 12 for a preliminary hearing related to the charges filed in May 2020.

    Adult Swim is splitting with “Rick and Morty” co-creator Justin Roiland after allegations of domestic violence. As previously reported, Roiland was charged in Orange County. California with felony counts of domestic battery with bodily injury by threat, violence, fraud, and/or deception and felony counts of false imprisonment. He pleaded not guilty in 2020 and appeared in court on Thursday, January 13, 2023, for a pre-trial hearing. A trial date has not yet been set. He is scheduled for another pre-trial hearing on April 27.

    According to the felony complaint obtained by Variety, the incident occurred on or around January 19, 2020, against an unidentified Jane Doe, who was dating Roiland at the time.

    In addition to co-creating “Rick and Morty” with Dan Harmon. For six seasons, Roiland voiced the title characters of “Rick and Morty,” mad scientist Rick Sanchez and his grandson Morty Smith.

    The show is expected to continue without Rowland, and sources say his roles will be recast. Adult Swim previously renewed the show for an additional 70 episodes in 2018, with the intention of bringing it to at least 100 episodes. To date, the series has aired 61 episodes, with season 6 ending in December 2022.

    Roiland also stars in the animated comedy “Solar Opposites” on Hulu, which was renewed for a fifth season in October. He also provides a voice and executive produces the recently launched Hulu animated comedy “Koala Man.”
