Twitter’s long-awaited meta-rival, Threads, is finally here. The Instagram-linked app has been in development since January and became available at a time of Twitter’s turmoil.
The Bird app has undergone a lot of changes under Elon Musk and new CEO Linda Yacarino. The app recently imposed rate limits on users that determine how much they can read on the platform.
What are Instagram threads?
Following this development, Instagram’s new Threads app is now available for users. Threads allow users to post content of up to 500 characters. Users can include links, photos, or videos up to 5 minutes long.
The application is connected to Instagram accounts, and Meta assures users that they will have the convenience of effortlessly sharing Threads posts to their Instagram Stories or sharing posts as links to various platforms of their preference.

You can freely download this application from either the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store. Once you’ve got the app installed, it’s pretty easy, especially if you’re an Instagram and Twitter freak.
Simply log in with your Instagram credentials and you will see the option to follow Instagram users on threads.
When you create your account, you will be asked to choose whether your account is private or public.
Your feed will show content from the original Threads users as well as people you follow on Instagram.
Like Twitter, you can block certain words in your settings and decide who can mention you.
How to Use It?
- Make sure you have an Instagram account
- Your Instagram username is automatically registered, but you can change it.
- Users can unfollow, report, block, and ban profiles just like Instagram and Twitter.
- Users can choose to start fresh in Threads or import their following list and personal information into Threads.
- Below each threaded post are options for Twitter Like, Comment, Repost, and Stock features.

A user blocked in the Instagram app will also be blocked in the thread.
Based on my firsthand experience, Threads is actually quite impressive. It brings all the power of Twitter (and Instagram) to the new app, without the redundant tweaks and intrusiveness that Twitter is currently associated with.
The success of this app can only be determined with the passage of time. In the meantime, users who are looking to eschew Elon Musk’s Twitter approach will be happy with Threads.
It’s important to note that this isn’t Meta’s first attempt at using threads, and there are already several Twitter alternatives out there, such as Mastodon, BlueSky, and Hive.
