A Utah jury found Kouri Richins guilty of murdering her husband, Eric Richins, despite her having written a children’s book to help kids cope with grief after losing a loved one.
The jury found Kouri Richins guilty of killing her husband, Eric Richins, in March 2022. The jury did not take long to decide it only took them three hours to reach the verdict on Monday. The reason Kouri Richins killed her husband, Eric Richins is that she was in a lot of trouble. She had a lot of debt millions of dollars. Kouri Richins had also taken out life insurance policies on her husband, Eric Richins. She was even having an affair with another man. The person who prosecuted Kouri Richins presented a case against her. They called witnesses more than 40 to testify against her.
One of the witnesses was a woman who admitted to giving Kouri Richins the drugs she used to kill her husband, Eric Richins. On the hand Kouri Richins defense team did not call any witnesses. Kouri Richins herself did not testify in court. Kouri Richins was not found guilty of murdering her husband, Eric Richins but also of fraud. She tried to claim the life insurance money after her husband, Eric Richins died. The prosecutors said Kouri Richins thought she would get over $4 million from her husbands estate.
She was planning to start a new life with the man she was having an affair with. The court found that this was not the first time Kouri Richins tried to kill her husband, Eric Richins. She had allegedly poisoned his sandwich earlier, which nearly killed him. The jury also found her guilty of attempted murder for that incident. The prosecutor, Brad Bloodworth said that Kouri Richins wanted to leave her husband, Eric Richins but she did not want to give up his money. What makes this case more disturbing is that Kouri Richins published a children’s book just two months before her arrest in March 2023.
The book, titled Are You With Me? was meant to help children deal with the loss of an one. Kouri Richins had dedicated the book to her husband, Eric Richins. Called him a wonderful father. Court documents show that in the months before Kouri Richins killed her husband, Eric Richins, she stayed in contact with someone previously arrested on drug charges.
At first Kouri Richins got hydrocodone pills. Then she asked for something stronger which she referred to as “the Michael Jackson stuff” a well-known reference to fentanyl. After Kouri Richins allegedly got the drugs she and her husband, Eric Richins had a Valentines Day dinner.
After that Eric Richins became very sick. He even told a friend that he thought his wife, Kouri Richins had tried to poison him. Two weeks later Kouri Richins got fentanyl. On March 4 2022 she called the police at night saying she had found her husband, Eric Richins unresponsive.
Kouri Richins said she had brought him a vodka drink in bed before going to sleep in another room with one of their children. When she came back she said her husband, Eric Richins was “cold to the touch”.
