For a long time the Mugabe name was a big deal in Zimbabwe.. Since the 2017 coup that removed Robert Mugabe and his death in 2019 the former “first family” has had a lot of problems. They have been in and out of court had troubles and have fallen out of favor with the public.
The Youngest Son: Bellarmine Mugabe’s Legal Problems
people have been talking about Bellarmine Mugabe, the youngest of the siblings. He is 28 now. Has gone from being a teenager who liked to have fun and play video games to a man who is in serious trouble with the law.
Attempted Murder Charges in South Africa
In 2025 the police arrested Bellarmine in a fancy suburb of Johannesburg.Authorities accuse him of attempting to murder a 23-year-old man during a shooting. The case has faced several delays, and the situation has once again pushed the victim’s family back into the spotlight.
A History of Confrontation
This is not the time Bellarmine has had problems with the law. In the few years he has been in trouble many times:
- 2024: He got arrested for allegedly hitting a police officer in Beitbridge, Zimbabwe.
- 2025 (June): He got arrested for hitting a security guard at a mining site in Mazowe.
Flashy Lifestyle: Even before his father’s ousting people criticized Bellarmine for posting pictures of watches. This was at a time when Zimbabwe was having economic problems.
Robert Mugabe Jr: From Luxury to Petty Crime
Robert Jr, who’s now 33 has also been in the news for all the wrong reasons. While he was once being groomed for a role he has been involved in many legal disputes.
Property. Assault
In 2023, police arrested Robert Jr after he damaged property at a party in Harare and spat on a police officer. Although both sides later settled the charges out of court, the incident led many people to believe that the Mugabe children were “untouchable” and did not have to follow the rules.
Drug Possession
In 2025 Robert Jr got. Fined for having cannabis. He got stopped for driving the way down a one-way street. Even though the amount of cannabis was disputed the conviction is still a problem for the family.
Grace Mugabe: The “Gucci Grace” Legacy
Grace Mugabe, the First Lady used to be a very powerful person. Now she is 60. Lives a quieter life but her past still haunts her.
The Loss of an Empire
Under the administration the “Gushungo” business empire fell apart. Many people think it only survived because of the connections that disappeared after the 2017 coup.
Diplomatic Immunity and Arrest Warrants
Grace cannot travel to South Africa because there is an arrest warrant for her. The warrant is from a 2017 incident where she allegedly assaulted a model with an extension cord. Although she initially had immunity it got taken away.
Bona Mugabe: The Divorce that Exposed the Fortune
Bona, the daughter was considered the “quiet” member of the family. However her 2023 divorce from her ex-husband Simbarashe Chikore showed just how wealthy the family is.
The $80 Million Revelation
During the divorce proceedings Chikore claimed that they had a lot of money and assets including:
- A mansion in Dubai.
- 21 different farms.
- Tens of millions of dollars in properties.
The family denied some of these claims. The public scrutiny forced them to settle the matter privately.
Russell Goreraza: The Eldest Son
Russell Goreraza, Graces son from her marriage has a criminal record. In 2015 he got convicted of manslaughter after a speeding accident killed a pedestrian in Harare. Although the incident was serious he did not go to prison.

Status: Reconciling with the New Guard
Even though Robert Mugabe was bitter toward his successor, Emmerson Mnangagwa, the surviving family members seem to have made peace with him. In 2023, Grace, Bona and Robert Jr attended Mnangagwa’s inauguration.
Except for Bellarmine, who is currently detained in South Africa the family still lives in Zimbabwe in the “Blue Roof” mansion in Harare. This mansion was a gift, from the ruling party. Serves as a reminder of their former power. Read More
