People in Big Cities Have No Water as Pollution Gets Worse
There was an oil spill in the Dniester River after Russia attacked Ukraines Dniester plant. This made the water dirty. Forced the people in charge to turn off the water supplies to the city of Balti and the areas around it in Moldova.
This all started on March 7 when Russia attacked the plant. Three days later people saw the signs of oil in the Dniester River. This river is very important for most of Moldova and Ukraines Odesa region. By Monday Moldova said there was an emergency in the river area for 15 days to try to fix the problem.
Moldovas foreign ministry did something they called Russias ambassador and showed him a bottle of dirty water from the river. He left without saying anything to the reporters who were waiting.
Balti and Other Areas: Schools Closed, Water Trucks Come
The city of Balti in Moldova is having problems with water. The Environment Minister, Gheorghe Hajder said they will not turn on the water again until the oil level is safe. That means than 0.1mg per liter. On Monday night the tests showed the oil level was too high so they will do tests on Tuesday to see if they can turn on the water.
Three other towns in the north also have no water. Schools in the Balti area are now doing classes and officials are working hard to bring clean water to the people who live there.
The oil spill is also affecting Ukraine. It made the water dirty in the Chernivtsi, Vinnytsya and Odesa regions according to Ukrainian Deputy Minister Iryna Ovcharenko. Minister Hajder said Ukrainian officials told him that the leak is now under control. Know More

Big Tensions Between Countries
Moldovas President, Maia Sandu who likes Europe said Russia is fully responsible for the oil spill. She has been a supporter of Ukraine since Russia invaded in 2022 and she thinks Ukraines fight is also protecting her own country. Russia on the hand says she does not like Russia even after she won the election again in 2024, which the EU said was affected by Russias interference.

The police in Moldova said a Russian drone with explosives landed near the Ukraine-Moldova border, in Tudora village. This is a reminder that the war is still affecting many areas.
