Officials fear that dozens of people have died. Injured after an airstrike hit a drug treatment centre in Kabul. The Taliban-led government of Afghanistan says Pakistan is to blame for the attack.
The strike happened on Monday evening. It hit a hospital where around 2,000 people were getting treatment. Government officials report that the airstrike killed several people and injured many others. When reporters visited the scene parts of the facility were still burning. Than 30 bodies were seen being carried out on stretchers. Hospital staff think the total number of casualties could be much higher.
However, Pakistan says it did not target any healthcare facility. Instead, officials insist that their forces targeted only military installations and terrorist infrastructure in Kabul and Nangarhar Province.
Moreover, they emphasize that the strikes were precise and carefully planned to avoid harming civilians. Consequently, Pakistan rejects claims of civilian casualties and urges that reports suggesting otherwise are misleading.
However, Afghan authorities do not believe this. In fact, a health ministry spokesperson emphasized that there were no military sites near the hospital.
