Court says no wrong doing by Arvind Kejriwal in excise policy

The judge made it clear that people cannot be accused just on suspicion. The court said the Central Bureau of Investigation relied too much on statements made by some people, which was not correct. According to the judge, the entire case was based on guesses and not solid facts.

Because of this, the court said there was not enough material even to frame charges. As a result, all 23 accused people in the case were discharged.

The judge also said that some Central Bureau of Investigation officials could face action for wrongly accusing a public servant. This showed how weak the investigation was.

Kejriwal’s lawyer said the court carefully examined all the evidence and found that not even a single allegation was proved. The court also noted that the excise policy was made through a proper and transparent process.

The Central Bureau of Investigation is likely to challenge the decision in a higher court. Reacting to the verdict, Arvind Kejriwal said the judgment proves that truth always wins. He said some people tried to harm the Aam Aadmi Party, but the court has now clearly stated that he, Manish Sisodia, and the Aam Aadmi Party are honest.

The case was related to the Delhi Excise Policy 2021–22, which was introduced by the Aam Aadmi Party government and later withdrawn. The Central Bureau of Investigation began its probe in August 2022, claiming the policy favoured certain liquor businesses and caused losses to the government.

However, the court rejected these claims, saying there was no evidence to support them. The judge said the allegations did not stand up to judicial scrutiny and ordered that all the accused be set free.
