On Nov. 25, the One Direction alum dropped his version of the guitarist’s 1971 song “Angel,” originally from his posthumous album The Cry of Love.
Zayn makes his debut on the song, starting with the opening line, “An angel came down from heaven.”

It seems to have been approved by the late icon’s team. As Jimmy’s Instagram page posted a teaser of the song earlier in the week. A spokesperson for Experience Hendrix, LLC. told Billboard, “We are delighted that Zayn was inspired to use the original music from Jimi Hendrix’s ‘Angel’ in the recording of the song. Paying tribute to Jimmy through this cover is something Jane will never forget. “It was an unexpected and great honour to be asked to collaborate on @JimiHendrix’s 80th birthday,” he wrote on Instagram. “I have so much respect and admiration for Jimi, his music, and his fans. ‘Angel’ is out now – hope you love this track as much as I do. More than 50 years later, the new “Angel” marks a rare music release from 29-year-old Zayn since his 2021 album Nobody Is Listening. He recently collaborated with Yung Blue on the number “Fire Inside”.
Otherwise, he’s focused on activism—campaigning for expanded free school meals in the UK—and co-parenting his 2-year-old daughter, Khai, with Gigi Hadid. (Back in September, she gave them a shout-out after her daughter’s Peppa Pig birthday party.)
